BRICKWORK AND RESTORATION
Why It Pays To Use Brick.
Of all exterior finish products, brick has a greater market appeal. Studies by the National Association of Home Builders and other building organizations continually find That 60% of the nation’s homebuyers prefer brick homes. Brick homes command higher selling prices. To the consumer, a brick home means a sound investment and savings. It increases a home’s investment value, sells faster, and brings a higher resale price. Brick is virtually maintenance-free. It never needs painting, caulking, or staining. Brick won’t burn or rot like other finish materials, nor will it chip off on a whim. Brick won’t burn and subsequently can reduce fire insurance premiums. Brick is energy efficient. Its inherent mass qualities help keep a home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Brick’s mass also makes it a very effective noise insulator as well. Brick can save thousands of dollars over the life of a mortgage.
Why Repoint?
A common maintenance task for brick masonry is the repair of mortar joints. The longevity of mortar joints will vary with the exposure conditions and the mortar materials used, but a lifespan of more than 25 years is typical. The longevity of brick, however, may well exceed 100 years. Consequently, occasional repair of the mortar joints is expected over the life of the brick masonry. It is our observation that the most common reason for repointing brick masonry is to improve water penetration resistance. Repointing deteriorated mortar joints is one of the most effective and permanent ways of decreasing water entry into brickwork. This is because the most common means of water entry into a brick masonry wall is through debonded, cracked, or deteriorated mortar joints.
Does Your Brick Front Need Restoration?
Has your Philadelphia brick building lost its luster? Perhaps years of pollution have coated the bricks with an unsightly layer of soot or a previous owner decided that painted bricks were the perfect choice at the time.
To remove dirt and staining that has deposited on brickwork Steven J Leuzzi can clean the brickwork without damaging the brick itself, or pointing (the bits between bricks!).
After suitable preparation (sheeting windows, etc) we apply specially formulated brick cleaners to the surface, and this is thoroughly worked in and rinsed off. The end result will be to reveal the original color and texture of the brick face.

STUCCO
All homes can face a lot of problems as they age and begin to deteriorate. Stucco can be used to clad walls on both old and new homes for a variety of reasons, but on older homes adding stucco can provide a sturdier and more energy-efficient wall-cladding that is better suited to a home built before these features were readily available.
Stucco is easier to clean and more durable than other types of wall cladding. It is less likely to crack or stain, and even if it does stain it can be easily cleaned with a pressure washer and a mild detergent. You might stucco an older home after dealing with a less durable and easily soiled type of wall cladding for a lengthy period of time, desiring something lower maintenance.
Stucco has insulating properties, particularly synthetic stucco which is installed over a layer of insulating foam board. This foam board can keep warm air inside the home and cool air out, or vice-versa in the cooler months. By stuccoing an older home, homeowners can save energy--and money on their energy bills.
